Diarrhea Kitten Blood

Diarrhea with blood indicates that your kitten suffers from inflammation of the large bowel, known as colitis. Below are the most common causes for colitis in kittens. Please click on the links below for more information on these diseases. Should you seek a one on one consultation with a licensed veterinarian, please visit our Ask the Vet page where you can submit a question 7 days a week, 24 hours a day:

Intestinal parasites
Coronavirus
Panleukopenia

*Please bear in mind that kittens are more sensitive than adult cats to adverse effects associated with electrolyte disturbances and dehydration that can result from prolonged diarrhea. They can also begin to suffer from anemia if excessive amounts of blood are lost in the stool. All of this considered, combined with the deadly nature of panleukopenia virus, pet owners are advised to seek veterinary care ASAP in any case of prolonged kitten diarrhea.
