At this age, a skin mass that looks like this is most likely a benign (not cancerous) tumor called an epithelioma. On rare occassions, masses that have physical characteristics that resemble epitheliomas can also be a malignant type of mass called an adenocarcinoma. With advancing age being a predisposing factor for developing skin cancer, a veterinary visit is therefore recommended.
