Why I Am Against Trap Neuter/Spay Release (TNR) For Feral Cats

Feline Trap Spay-Neuter Release and it Impact on Wildlife

I would like to begin this article by stating unequivocally that my stance on TNR is not necessarily a negative commentary on individuals and rescue groups that promote this.  Their intent is a humane one, to trap wild or feral cats that are so wild that they would not otherwise be adoptable, have them sterilized so that that do not reproduce and contribute to the feral cat overpopulation epidemic, and then release them to live out their lives; as an alternative to euthanasia.  The intent to be sure is an honorable one, but it is an approach that from my opinion carries more negative consequences than benefit.

Wildlife Impact

The impact of feral cats on wildlife cannot be overstated.  Feral cats are responsible for countless island species extinctions as the result of their efficient hunting for food.  The Smithsonian Institute estimates that feral cats are responsible for 14% modern bird, amphibian, and small mammal extinction.  As such, they have been named among the top 100 invasive species list.

The Smithsonian also estimates that 1.4-3.7 billion birds lose their lives to feline predation each year in the United States.  Thus, by enabling the sustaining of feral cat populations and colonies, we are dooming countless small critters to death and even extinction.

Public Health

Feral cats cannot receive regular wellness care and parasite prevention, nor can they receive regular inoculations for rabies, a killer of domestic animals and people.  A particular parasite that infects cats called the round worm can infect children 5 years of age or under and reach a stage of larval development that can migrate to their eyes and cause irreversible blindness (called ocular larval migrans).  Cats notoriously defecate in children’s sand boxes and other areas of yards where children play and can come in contact with these and other parasites.

Without the benefit of preventive care, feral cats also carry ectoparasites such as fleas and ticks which also harbor infections disease, such as Bubonic Plague and Lyme disease.

Quality of Life

Do feral cats really enjoy a reasonable quality of life?  The average life span of an indoor cat is 12-14 years.  Compare that to feral cats whose life spans are estimated to rarely exceed 3 years.   The reason for the difference is that feral cats live infested with parasites, suffer from untreated infections and painful and immune suppressive periodontal disease, and even themselves fall victim to predation (here in Florida where I live and practice, bobcats are commonly known to kill and eat domestic cats).

Speaking of bobcats, proponents of TNR often point to their and other naturally occurring wild feline populations as proof that cats can adapt and live a good quality of life in the wild.  The flaw in this thinking is that truly wild cat species are the result hundreds, even thousands of years  of survival of the fittest and have adapted a more intrinsic resistance to parasitism, infections, and periodontal disease, as well as more effectively evade predation.

The Colonies Often Grow

Despite aggressive and committed attempts to use TNR for control of feral feline populations, I have seen many occasions where colonies grow as opposed to shrink over time as is the intent.  This is because until the legal system hold people accountable for their cats, people will continue to fail to sterilize their cats, let them out to reproduce, and sadly even outright abandon them when their novelty has run its course.   With many feral cat colonies managed by people who feed them, new cats seek these easy sources of food and constantly add new members to existing colonies.

Again, I do not think poorly of people and/or rescue groups that advocate for trap, spay/neuter release programs, as their intent and their heart is thinking of a humane approach to help  solve feral cat epidemics that plague many communities.  From my point of view, the wildlife, public health, and poor quality of life for feral cats far outweighs any humane benefit, while in many cases propagating the problem.

  1. TNR Researcher says:

    The TNR CON-GAME

FACT: Trap & Kill failed because cats cannot be trapped faster than they exponentially breed out of control.

FACT: Trap, Neuter, & Re-Abandon (TNR) is an even bigger abject failure because these man-made ecological disasters cannot be trapped faster than they exponentially breed out of control, and they also continue to cruelly annihilate all native wildlife (from the smallest of prey up to the top predators that are starved to death), and the cats continue to spread many deadly diseases that they carry today — FOR WHICH THERE ARE NO VACCINES AGAINST THEM. Many of which are even listed as bio-terrorism agents. (Such as Tularemia and The Plague — Yes, people have already died from cat-transmitted plague in the USA. No fleas nor rats even required. The cats themselves carry and transmit the plague all on their own.)

FACT: Hunted To Extinction (or in this case, extirpation of all outdoor cats) is the ONLY method that is faster than a species like cats can exponentially out-breed and out-adapt to. Especially a man-made invasive species like these cats that can breed 2X-4X’s faster than any naturally occurring cat-species.

FACT: THERE IS ABSOLUTELY _NOTHING_ HUMANE ABOUT TNR. Nearly every last TNR’ed cat dies an inhumane death by road-kill, from cat and animal attacks, environmental poisons, starvation, dehydration, freezing to death, infections, eaten from the inside-out by parasites, etc. And if very very lucky humanely shot to death or re-trapped and drowned (the two most common methods employed on all farms and ranches to protect their gestating livestock’s offspring and valuable native wildlife dying from cats’ Toxoplasmosis parasites). This doesn’t begin to count the thousands of defenseless native animals that cats skin alive and disembowel alive for their daily and hourly play-toys. And pitting cat against cat to fight-to-the-death for territory is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENT than those who run criminal dog-fight rings to see who wins. They spend YEARS in jail. IT IS A HIGHLY PUNISHABLE CRIME TO FORCE *ANY* DOMESTICATED ANIMALS TO FIGHT EACH OTHER FOR THEIR VERY SURVIVAL.

FACT: The only difference in destroying cats immediately and humanely instead of trapping, sterilizing, then releasing them to an inhumane death and forcing them to fight-to-the-death for survival; is that money isn’t going into Becky Robinson’s Alley-Cat-All-Lies pocket, or an HSUS or SPCA board-member’s pocket, veterinarian’s pocket, cat-food company CEO’s pocket, or a drug-company CEO’s pocket. And that’s the ONLY difference! Support yet another organization that exploits and perpetuates the suffering of animals for their own personal financial gain, then try to sleep well at night.

FACT: These manipulative, deceptive, and deceitful TNR proponents are now clipping cats ears ONLY. WITHOUT vaccinations nor sterilizing them. They do this to save money and protect their outdoor hoarded cat colonies from being trapped and euthanized by the state because the clipped-ear shows officials that they have been sterilized and vaccinated. Why pay $140 for each cat and all that time when just a trap and a simple snip of scissors on each one can also protect their hoarded cats from being destroyed? (I have absolute proof of this.)

FACT: Cats are a man-made (through selective breeding) invasive species. And as such, are no less of a man-made environmental disaster than any other caused by man. Cats are even worse than an oil-spill of continent-sized proportions. They not only kill off rare and endangered marine-mammals along all coastlines from run-off carrying cats’ Toxoplasma gondii parasites, they destroy the complete food-chain in every ecosystem where cats are found. From smallest of prey gutted and skinned alive for cats’ tortured play-toys, up to the top predators that are starved to death from cats destroying their ONLY food sources. (Precisely what cats caused on my own lands not long ago.)

FACT: In _TWENTY_YEARS_ Alley Cat ALL-LIES branch of NYC have only reduced feral cats in their own city by 0.08% to 0.024% (as the months go on that percentage becomes more insignificant), allowing more than 99.92% to 99.976% to exponentially breed out of control. Here’s how Alley-Cat-ALL-LIES’ deceptive math works: If you TNR 4 cats and 3 get flattened by cars this translates to 75% fewer feral-cats everywhere. Alley Cat ALL-LIES of NYC can’t even reduce cats in their own city, yet they promote it as a worldwide solution. Then even bigger fools fall for it and promote it.

FACT: When researching over 100 of the most “successful” TNR programs worldwide, JUST ONE trapped more than 0.4%. Oregon’s 50,000 TNR’ed cats (the highest rate I found) was 4.9% of all ferals in their state that year. Yet, by applying population growth calculus on the unsterilized 95.1% they trapped only 0.35% of all cats in their state the following year. Less than 0.4% is a far cry from the required 75%-85% to be the least bit effective.

FACT: Their mythical “vacuum effect” is a 100% LIE. A study done by the Texas A&M University proved that any perceived “vacuum” is just the simple case that CATS ATTRACT CATS. Get rid of them all and there are no cats there to attract more. I proved this myself by shooting and burying hundreds of them on my own lands. ZERO cats replaced them for OVER SIX YEARS NOW. If you want more cats, keep even one of them around, more will find you. That university study also found that sterilized cats very poorly defend any territory. Non-sterilized cats, being more aggressive, take over the sterilized cats’ resources (shelter & food if any). If there is any kind of “vacuum effect” at all, it is that sterilizing cats cause non-sterilized cats to restore the reproductive void.

FACT: During all this investigation I have discovered something that is unfaltering without fail. Something that you can bet your very life on and win every last time. That being — IF A TNR CAT-HOARDER IS TALKING THEN THEY ARE LYING. 100% guaranteed!

    • TNRResearcher IsADouche says:

TNR Researcher is a sociopath web commenter. In other words, a wannabe troll.

If you’ve ever commented on a Web story about cats – especially feral cat management, or TNR (which stands for Trap, Neuter Release) – you may have encountered, or been attacked by a poster who uses the name TNR Researcher.

TNR Researcher is misleading and untrue. He’s actually a sociopath who harbors obsessive hatred towards anyone who supports the Trap/Neuter/Release method of controlling cat populations.

Before you become upset or angry – especially if he has attacked you personally – take a minute to read these facts and observations about TNR Researcher (or TNRR for short):

      1. He has psychological problems. The general consensus is that TNR Researcher is a narcissistic sociopath* with an obsessive hatred of cats. He also displays classic symptoms of obsessive/compulsive disorder (see 4).

      2. He has no understanding of the toxoplasma gondii parasite, the cause of a disease called toxoplasmosis. In TNR Researcher’s brain, cats are the only carriers of t. gondii and that those who have cats as pets are 100% infected. A bit of research quickly exposes TNR Researcher as a propagandist and a liar. But he pretends to be an expert and often publishes links to “medical stories” that are badly-researched at best, and outright whoppers at worst.

      3. He is obsessive-compulsive. TNR Researcher searches the Web on a daily basis, looking for articles that may provide new opportunities to attack strangers. Many of his comments are copied and pasted from earlier posts. He has been called out on this several times. As a result, he recently hid his Disqus profile to hide his copy/paste habits.

So … if you’re attacked by this nutter and have responded,
what’s the best thing to do?

      1. Ideally, ignore him. This seems to flip a switch with TNR Researcher and he’ll probably post not just one, but several responses to your last post. It’s fun to watch him melt down.

      2. State your position clearly and post no more. If you want to make your position clear to other readers – most will be sane – do this and say buy-bye. If you want to have some fun, mention that you’re not going to respond to him any more. This makes him go into sociopathic overdrive (they hate to be ignored) and he may begin to publish reams of additional responses. Just smile quietly to yourself and ignore them.

      2. If he attacks you personally, report him if possible. You may or may not be able to do this. This will depend on the venue. Check out the site’s Terms of Service, as chances are he’s violating them. If he is, contact the site administrator (the webmaster is a good place to start).

      * A narcissistic sociopath displays the following traits:
A driven quest for power. If a narcissistic sociopath cares about anything other than himself, it is destructive power and control over people.
No apologies, no guilt, no remorse under any circumstance. A sociopathic narcissist believes that she is a gift to the world who makes it richer and more colorful. Therefore, her calculated, even cruel actions are always justified.
Invincibility. The narcissistic variety of sociopath believes he is indomitable. Even punishment and prison can’t stop him. They’re merely part of the game.
Wholly self-serving. The needs and wants of others are insignificant and undeserving of consideration.

    • Marcia says:

A very basic observation that often gets overlooked: The purpose of TNR is not to reduce the current cat population. (That would involve killing cats!) Rather, the purpose of TNR is to reduce the rate at which cats reproduce. There are many benefits, the major one being a reduction in the FUTURE cat population. And yes, as others have pointed out there are other ways to reduce the FUTURE cat population, education being critical. (The importance of spay/neuter, the importance of not dumping unfixed cats, the importance of not leaving unfixed cats behind when moving, etc.)

  2. TNR Researcher says:

A message for all TNR supporters (we’ve got your number, alright):

Here is glaring proof of how, as cat-hoarders so often and mindlessly respew, “Trap-Neuter-Release is the most effective means of managing feral cat populations. In fact, it is the only proven way to do so.”

The residents of the UK who invented TNR in the 1950’s have been relentlessly practicing that failed ideology NATIONWIDE for over 60 years now. And all they have managed to do with TNR is DOUBLE their vermin cat populations — from 4.1 million vermin cats in 1965 to 7.9 million vermin cats in 2014. And to help, all this time they are still killing them in shelters and legally shooting them to death in rural areas under their animal depredation-control laws. By foolishly hoping and praying that their very own TNR concept will reduce vermin cat populations someday they have now even driven their one and only NATIVE cat species to extinction with their invasive-species vermin “moggies” (feral house-cats) — with less than 35 “Scottish Wildcats” left in the whole world. (Along with 421 other species that they have already made extinct in the UK in the last 200 years — OVER TWO SPECIES PER YEAR GONE FOREVER just due to British cultural beliefs, practices, and values.) All the while they still insist that practicing their failed TNR policies will still save their “Scottish Wildcat” from being wiped from the earth forever. You can kiss their “Scottish Wildcat” good-bye too now. (Laughably ironic if it weren’t so pathetically, globally, and permanently sad. The population of the UK have made themselves into the ecological-laughingstocks of the whole world.)

Nice plan. TNR sure does work, doesn’t it!

You know that saying about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The British have proved the failure of their vermin cat-insanity for over 60 years now. You too can be just as ecologically destructive, ignorant, and just as insane as the inbred mentalities of the Toxoplasma gondii brain-damaged moggie-licking British by practicing and promoting their failed-belief in their TNR concept! 🙂

Here too are some wonderful quotes from an article published by your most revered TNR promoters — the very “scientists” that TNR cat-lickers always quote out of context to try to support their TNR insanity. Read it and weep (and then quit spreading your ecosystem-destroying LIES):

“‘virtually no information exists to support the contention that neutering is an effective long-term method for controlling free-roaming cat populations.’ ‘free-roaming cats do not appear to have sufficient territorial activity to prevent new arrivals from permanently joining colonies.'”

Levy, Julie K., David W. Gale, and Leslie A. Gale. Evaluation of the Effect of a Long-Term Trap-Neuter-Return and Adoption Program on a Free-Roaming Cat Population. Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association 2003, 222(1): 42-46.

Now explain to the whole world why you have been lying to them (and yourself) all your sad sorry cat-licking life.

    BONUS INFO:

Here’s a good site for you to dream about at night. It shows how your “loving and humane” euthanasia by “TNR attrition” works to reduce cat populations by your supporting, promoting, and practicing TNR. A wonderful compendium of pages and pages of photographs and articles on how you truly help anyone’s unwanted and expendable vermin garbage-cats.

    http : / / realoutdoorcats . tumblr . com /

    Enjoy!!! 🙂

After you view all the photos and read all the articles on that site, come back and tell us all about that concept of “humane” that you use when promoting TNR and how much that you truly love cats. 🙂 This should be fun! I wonder how many of your and your friends’ cats ended-up photographed on that site, all due to you telling them to practice TNR. I hope all your TNR friends come back and tell you how wonderful they think you are now (with an axe). 🙂

  3. Fiona says:

wow all this looks very shocking. But I must say that in a smaller controlled area, like Hong Kong, TNR does seem successful. First, in the actual city, there arent any protected wildlife to destroy. The cats ought to prey on rats. I dont think they do, because they are brought too much food by volunteers and become very ft: I believe this has been stopped.

The population of abandoned kittens has vanished. Maybe it still goes on in the New Territories…but in the city, you never find little mewing things in the bins anymore…its hard to get a kitten now and they used to be all over the place.

And third, I think the animals are conscientiously looked after. They certainly look gleaming with health.

Again, I dont know how it is on Lamma Island, or Lantau, in the countryside. But the city, I would say it works.

  4. Jessica says:

Ok…….. I am a C.V.T. with many years of experience working in high volume spay and neuter clinics.

FACT: TNR does work! I have personally been watching people employ the program for years, and the decline of new kittens is amazing.

FACT: The people who are saying to just kill these cats, are the ones who refuse to do the dirty work themselves. They would rather stand on their pedestal and pretend to be above all of that. When in fact, people like that, are the reason we need people like me!

FACT: The colonies here are adopted by good Samaritans who selflessly attend to their needs, I.E. Building shelters, providing food (WHICH BTW prevents the over destruction of small wildlife, although personally Even with all the feral cats in my area, I have NOT see a decline in rodents at my house)

FACT: I have personally euthanized many of these cats who were too sick to be returned to the colony, or who had grown too sick in the years after their spay/neuter. So the theory that they are “Left to die horrible deaths” is just propaganda from those too lazy to help.

FACT: WHEN A feral is brought in for castration, THEY ARE ALSO GIVEN VACCINES!!! Again, the people above are just spouting off falsehoods to make themselves feel better about being a part of the problem and not of the solution!

FACT: Many times the only chance these animals ever get to see a Dr are at clinics like the ones I support here. That is one chance we have to help them, one chance to fix the broken tooth, or remove a BB or bullet from a joint, or countless other things that make life better for these animals!!! Most of the time we did these things at no cost, simply because we all wanted to see these animals given the best they could have.

FACT: Another way to prevent the growth of a colony is to EDUCATE THE PEOPLE who let these cats go, expecting them to live!!! By promoting High volume/ Low cost spay and neuter you can give your community another option!

FACT: Veterinary offices who try to disprove the effect of TNR, are the reason why people feel they have no alternative! With the WAY Over pricing of surgical castration, and the money hungry bias against spay/neuter clinics, they give out false information and literally scare owners into believing that they have to PAY a huge bill in order to be responsible.

FACT: We have all sat by and faithfully listened to the propaganda from veterinary offices that deny the effect of TNR. Many years all they have done is point fingers and offer no real solution. In those years the amounts of abandoned, and feral cats have SKYROCKETED. Now they try to blame the abandoning of NEW cats on TNR??? Honestly, use your head! How many people would abandon their pets if they KNEW THERE WAS AN OPTION, an option that their “Trusted advisers” are keeping quiet about because they dont care about your pet, they care about what you will pay to care for your pet!!!

FACT: there are many Low cost or FREE options out there!!! If people are aware of these then most are very likely to use them!!! Pet owners do not pick a pet with the intentions of abandoning them because they are convinced by Greedy veterinarians that they will have to decide between feeding their family, or fixing their pet! People will use the programs if they know about them!!!

FACT: I have worked in high volume spay and neuter for many years, WE DO NOT GIVE second rate care! In fact our anesthesia protocols, and well frankly every aspect of the clinics, are fine tuned and honed. These clinics are a very well oiled machine! Filled with staff who have so much experience that they know what to expect in almost every scenario.

FACT: Your pet is more likely to die do to surgical complications at a regular vet office, than at a high volume clinic. In your regular vet office, it takes the Dr. about an hour to preform 1 single cat spay. And that is if they are given an “Ideal patient”!!!! The longer your pet is under anesthesia, the more likely they are to die. The staff in these offices are not as experienced in surgical prep, monitoring, or post op care! So in fact, you pet suffers from their lack of experience.

FACT: I have personally seen several Veterinarians perform a cat spay in UNDER 9 MINUTES!!!! These animals are already awake from their surgeries, before the regular Vet office, even gets their patient into the surgery suite.

FACT: Out of 20+ regular Veterinary offices, I have never seen a single Dr preform more then 5-6 surgeries in a day. While in a High volume clinic, I have personally assisted in days where a single Dr has preformed over 60 surgeries!!!

FACT: IN ALL MY YEARS AS A LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WORKING WITH HIGH VOLUME CLINICS, I have NEVER lost a patient do to complications of surgery!!!!! NEVER! NOT ONE!

I will finish up here by saying, PLEASE!!! As a person who loves animals, Go to your local spay/neuter clinic and LEARN THE FACTS! VIEW THE STATS!!!! Don’t blindly follow the mad ravings of money hungry hate mongers! BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD!

For those who are spouting off against TNR, Get off your lazy, and instead of reading what you believe someone else researched, GO FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF! In fact, if you are so sure this is all wrong, then enroll your whole staff into a High volume spay/Neuter education course, AND STAND BEHIND YOUR Words! I know you wont, because the problem here is not TNR, the problem is you not wanting to lose the income from uneducated clients!

Makes me sick to think these same people claim to love your pets as much as you do, while lying to you about ways you could be helping those pets!

Im not asking anyone to believe what I have said here, Im simply asking you to compare for yourself! Do your research!! Because I already know what you will find out. And I already know that you will never look at a Dr who denies the effects of TNR the same way again. I know I don’t.

    • Dr. Roger says:

You should be careful about what you proclaim as “FACT,” starting with the assumption of greedy veterinarians that you have never even met.

You should also be very careful about glorifying high volume spay/neuter clinics , as there are a few high volume spay/neuter clinics in my area. What I know of them from technicians who have worked there is not good. I have personally had to re-cut these patients on several occasions with ovarian remnants left behind and estrus cycles subsequently continuing. I know that they do not place and endotracheal tube to protect the airway during surgery, but instead mask the patients. None get an IV catheter placed nor do they get intra-operative intravenous fluids. Doctors do not sterilize their hands but simply throw on sterile gloves, and none wear masks nor surgical gowens. Their sterile field is the size of a postage stamp.

It is not a question of being greedy as you state. Using an endotracheal tube, cap, mask, scrubbing the hands, wearing a gown, placing an IV catheter, administering IV fluids intra-operatively, and having a large sterile field that does not leave any non-surgical sites exposed…are basic veterinary university and AAHA standards of care.

These standards of care that AAHA accredited hospitals (such as my clinic) take very seriously cost money. If an assembly line of skipped corners (and sometimes skipped removal of complete female organs) is the paradigm of “medicine” that you prefer, that is your right, but it is not your right to accuse those of us that tout quality over quantity and employ optimal standards of care that our governing bodies establish and promote; of being greedy.

    • Tiffany R. says:

Wow! You really hate cats! So of course you reject TNR.

    • Tiffany R. says:

Thank you Jessica for the truth!

  5. Charlie says:

A vet I would never use. TNR works and trying to convince otherwise in one sided opinions like this encourage cat killers. Currently, there is a crazy man kiling cats under the guys of saving birds; yethis fb page is filled with pics of large piles of sparrows he shoots. Complete sociopath. Those who dispute TNR are afflicted with laziness. Let us do our thing.

  6. Charlie says:

Dr Roger, this is simply girl to perpetuate animal cruety against cats.

  7. Marian Brown says:

Hey Dr Roger, this is March 8, 2017, so I’m behind the times, but want to say thank you for your information and speaking out rationally against the full claims of TNR, which are over blown and more multi-faceted than feral cat activists are admitting. When it comes to preserving some biodiversity in this country, we should all do our bit and keep cats safe, neutered, and behind a catio fence or indoors.
I’m wondering if we can start asking for mandatory neutering prior to the first litter for cats, to get the supply reduced.

  8. Jess says:

I live as a hostage to a feral cat hoarding neighbor who now uses TNR as an excuse to get away with it. I chase them off my yard constantly and it is a disruption to my responsibility kept neutered and cared for indoor cats who were even put on Prozac for awhile. The ferals have come to the windows and sprayed their urine even. I have spent hundreds of dollars on deterrents that don’t work. My son is chronicly ill and we have abandoned our yard because of their feces and disease. The neighbor says it is my responsibility to keep her cats off my property. The county and health department will do nothing for me. This affects many, many neighbors. Any other animal I could have trapped or removed. But not feral cats. Why are people feeding them? THEY ARE NOT STARVING. If they are wildlife they dont need to be fed-do we feed bears? She wont even follow best practices and leaves the food out to attract raccoons and other wildlife and the trash out to float down into our yards. My property and house are the biggest investment of my life and I appear to have no rights. HElP. I would have more resuce cats but its not a good environment for them now because of this irresponsible neighbors feral cats. Learn from Australia STOP this.

  9. Connie says:

Let me get this right! Should we just kill them All and not try to do anything to give them a chance to see tomorrow? I just want to be sure you have a suggested solution short of just killing them all. I just completed a feral cat stablization project in my neighborhood. We now have 13 that are spayed or neutered and vaccinated. I have 3 neighbor’s and myself that have feeding stations for them. Should I just go trap them all again and kill them? You have written a lot here. Surely you had to flip the coin to suggest a solution as well.?. Iin the meantime I will walk in the rain, sleet or snow to the woods to be sure they have food and water. In fact since I started this project they do not normally leave their area where they are fed. We do not try to domesticate them. We want them to always untrusting so they are not killed by other pray. Have you ever actually tried to stabilize a feral cat colony? Have you seen the above up close and personally? Sorry if I missed that part of you have. So many “facts” against this idea here I could not keep up. I will be building them winter shelter for the winter. If they have a chance to see one more day then my efforts are much better than letting my neighbor’s cut their heads off. I have gotten buy in from my neighborhood. They may not be the one that buys the food (I do) but they have agreed not to kill them and throw them in the woods. What say you on the solution?

  10. Jayme says:

We have a small very concentrated little subdivision within an open subdivision in the woods. We are overrun with cats. We are finding out tnr advocates cat hoarders are trapping and releasing cats FROM OTHER TOWNS into our community. Screens are being broken on residents houses, gardens and landscaping filled with cat shit. Urine all over our carports. Some one needs to regulate these tnr people. Which as mentioned we are finding that these people who profess TNR is what should be done are ALL CAT HOARDERS. Before a stay feral cat would pass thru from the woods at night and if they found no food kept on going. NOW we have these tnr cat hoarders putting out food stations. Now every cat within a 10 mile radius is coming in to eat and stay. AND the racoon population is coming to eat also. We’ve had 6 rabid/distempered diseased coons found in our backyards within one month. This HAS To STOP. The government must step in to stop this. We have seen FIRST HAND tnr advocates ARE ALL CAT HOarderS that have been allowed to flourish using the tnr card. These tnr clinics MUST be held accountable as to WHERE these cats come from and WHERE they are being released.

  11. ben says:

they want us to let them hoard their cats in our neighborhoods our property so they can feel better? what makes them think that this is ok? the only way to stop this mess is with a few simple laws. cats must be licensed, vaccination prof, leash law, and not allowed to roam. anyone who allows there pet to roam really does not care about them anyways. its irresponsible cat owners who are the problem and this will make it less easy to ditch their cats as so many do. please don’t call them community cats because the community does not want them. we are responsible cat owners and have no problem with these laws. but with these laws, not as many people will want a cat since they would actually have to take care of it rather than just throw down some food and water and be done with them. these cats are not loved or wanted so why should the responsible owners have to put up with them just because someone wants to hoard cats. peter wolf thinks its ok to abandon cats in a neighborhood that he does not even live in. dumps food on street corners does not try to trap any of the cats which most seem not to have clipped ears. he is a nuisance that lies about what he is doing and will lie about anything to get his way. lies is all that come from this guy and it does his cause no good in the long run.
